Wainwright's Coast to Coast walk is 190 miles across Northern England. It passes through three contrasting national parks: the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the North York Moors National Park. The path runs just west and south of Scorton and can be accessed at nearby village Bolton on Swale.

The ruins of Easby Abbey are set in beautiful countryside alongside the river Swale. Founded in 1152, Easby Abbey was suppressed in 1536 and within two years most of its buildings had been stripped and demolished. The ruins later became a favourite subject for artists, including JMW Turner.
